Bias
A skew in how an AI system treats people or cases, or in what it produces, inherited from its data or built in by design.
Bias is inherently present in an AI system. Data cannot be unbiased, so systems that use it, especially systems that train on it, cannot be unbiased. Not every skew is a bad thing. A deliberate skew, such as favoring recent documents, can improve a system. The harm is bias that treats groups of people unfairly. The challenge for areas like AI ethics is to find that bias, measure it, and decide what is fair to people.
