High-risk AI

An AI system used where errors can seriously affect people's health, safety or rights, such as hiring, credit, education or critical infrastructure, which brings strict legal duties.

The EU AI Act sets out which systems count in Article 6 and Annex III. Providers and deployers of these systems have extra duties, such as risk management, human oversight and record keeping. Some US state laws, such as Colorado's, use their own definitions, and these have changed recently, so check the current text.
